Algerian Airlines Starts First Direct Flight to Ethiopia

Addis Ababa, September 22/2023(ENA) Algerian Airlines has begun its first direct flight to the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa today.

The new flight from Algiers-Houari Boumédiène to the Addis Ababa Bole International Airport has brought on board an Algerian delegation led by the Algerian Minister of Transport Youcef Chorfa, including Algerian Airlines CEO Yacine Benslimane to Ethiopia.

The Algerian delegation upon arrival at Bole International Airport was received by Ministry of Foreign Affairs officials that included African Affairs Director-General Fiseha Showel, Ethiopian Ambassador to Algeria Nebiat Getachew, and Algeria’s Ambassador to Ethiopia Mohammed Lamine Laabas.

The Algerian delegation and Ethiopian side have also discussed the details on resumption of regular flights to Algiers and Addis Ababa at the end of October 2023.

The new direct flight started today is a bold step to facilitate Ethio-Algeria air connectivity as a crucial way to bolster people-to-people relations, trade, tourism and investment.

Ethiopian CEO Mesfin Tasew congratulated Air Algeria for the inaugural flight to Addis Ababa and noted it will enhance relations, including trade, tourism.

Ethiopian will also work to connect Algeria and Ethiopia and beyond, he said.

Algerie Airlines CEO Yacine Benslimane expressed his delight about the start of direct flight link between the countries.

The flight will have two frequency a week between the capital cities of the two countries, he added.

Algerian Minister of Transport Youcef Chorfa said this important step comes as an embodiment of the efforts aimed at strengthening the relations of friendship and cooperation that exist between Algeria and Ethiopia, as well as the deepening of the historical ties between the two countries.

Meanwhile, it was learned that the Government of Algeria has sent olive oil tree sapling supporting Ethiopia’s Green Legacy Initiative.
